HC Deb 02 April 1957 vol 568 c21W
30. Mr. C. Howell

asked the Secretary of State for War what transport arrangements are made for the transfer of Service personnel serving in Germany when coming home on leave; and what standard of comfort is provided on transport vessels used for this purpose.

Mr. J. Amery

Conveyance is by special train and troopship, the short-sea crossing between Harwich and the Hook being made at night. Officers and all families have cabins; troops are accommodated in troop decks fitted with folding berths, and they are provided with pillows and blankets.
