HC Deb 02 April 1957 vol 568 c23W
76. Mr. Lewis

asked the President of the Board of Trade in what way and for which commodities the East German Government neglected to implement their Barter Trade Agreement with Great Britain; and which of the items for which he refused import licences since October, 1956, were affected.

Mr. Walker-Smith

There is no such agreement. In each of the cases in which import licences have been refused since October, the reason has been that we have not been satisfied with the exports the East Germans proposed to take in exchange for their goods.
