§ 112. Mr. P. Wellsasked the Paymaster-General what success has been achieved in efforts to produce a smokeless fuel from Kent coal.
§ Mr. RentonSome Kent coals are naturally smokeless but, mainly owing to their friable nature, only a small proportion is suitable for the domestic market. The National Coal Board has taken through the research stage a process to convert the fines into a smokeless fuel suitable for open grates and are now preparing to test this process in an experimental plant.
