asked Her Majesty's Government how many people in the United Kingdom are at present on the waiting list to have a telephone installed, and also how many people approximately have been waiting for a telephone on average over the last five years.

At the 30th September, 1956, there Were 296,711 orders outstanding for telephone service, of which about one third were under inquiry or in course of being met. The figures for the five previous years were:—
