§ 64. Mr. Awberyasked the Under-Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations if he is aware of the growing deterioration in the relationship between the members of the British Commonwealth which may lead to its disintegration if not dealt with quickly and effectively; and if he will take steps to convene a conference of representatives from each of the Commonwealth countries for the purpose of discussing how this deterioration can be arrested and the relationship restored.
§ Lord John HopeI cannot accept the hon. Member's suggestion that there is a growing deterioration in relations between members of the Commonwealth. On the contrary, there has been much evidence in recent weeks of the great value which all the member nations attach to their relationship. That being so, Her Majesty's Government see no necessity at this time for a conference of the type suggested.
