§ 93. Mr. D. Jonesasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food to what extent the increase made on 28th October, 1956, in the basic price of raw sugar sold by his Department was due to an increase in the subsidy to British producers, or a change in the negotiated price, or to any other cause.
Mr. AmoryThe recent increase in my Department's raw sugar price to cover its costs on sugar during the current financial year was due in the main to a rise in storage costs and freight rates. No Government subsidy is paid to growers of sugar beet in the United Kingdom and there has been no change over the last two years in the negotiated price paid for Commonwealth sugar.
