HC Deb 26 November 1956 vol 561 c8W
50. Mr. Emrys Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will instruct our representative at the United Nations to propose that the United Nations should immediately outline a five-year peace plan for the Middle East which will have for its purpose the organisation of work for the Arab refugees and the raising of the standard of life of all the Middle Eastern countries.

Commander Noble

No. But as I told my hon. Friend the Member for Brighton, Pavilion (Mr. Teeling) on 19th November, Her Majesty's Government certainly want to settle the Palestine problem on a basis of justice. We must also have a settlement of the Palestine refugees. Her Majesty's Government will play their part in seeking such a solution through the United Nations, where the Palestine question is on the agenda of the current session of the General Assembly.
