HC Deb 12 November 1956 vol 560 c9W
Mr. Hornby

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what the wheat deficiency payment will be for the period from 1st July to 30th September, 1956; and when it will be paid.

Mr. Amory

The ascertained average price for about 7.1 million cwt. of millable wheat despatched on delivery during the first accounting period (1st July to 30th September, 1956) of the cereal year 1956–57 is 22s. 11.7d. per cwt. The standard price for the period is 27s. 6d. per cwt. and the deficiency payment will, therefore, be 4s. 6.3d. per cwt. (£4 10s. 6d. per ton). In addition, approximately 1.3 million cwt. of wheat brought up to millable standard after sale will be included in the payment.

Except for a few certificates which are under query, the total payment of £1.9 million to about 21,000 growers will begin at once and will be completed by the end of November.
