HC Deb 02 May 1956 vol 552 c52W
Mr. Orbach

asked the Secretary to the Treasury to make inquiries into the case of Mr. L. N. Cooper, a publisher of Anson Road, London, N.W.2. who claims that he has been made bankrupt by the Commissioners of Inland Revenue, arising out of assessments of Income Tax for £18,000, which Mr. Cooper maintains he did not owe; if he is further aware that Mr. Cooper claims that he has never had the income suggested by the Inland Revenue and that he gave them proof that this income was received by others; and if he will take steps to see that the tax is demanded from the company concerned, and that this man is not further harassed.

Mr. H. Brooke

I have seen a report on this case. The normal facilities for appeal have been available to this taxpayer, and I cannot intervene.
