HC Deb 15 March 1956 vol 550 c72W
110. Captain Pilkington

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance what has been the percentage increase since 1951 of the old-age pension and the rates of National Assistance.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

The retirement pension for a single person and the National Assistance scale rate for a single householder are both 54 per cent. higher than the rates in force during most of 1951, and 33 per cent. higher than the rates introduced in the autumn of that year. The rates for married couples have been increased by much the same proportions.
