HL Deb 15 March 1956 vol 196 cc575-6WA
LORD GLYN

asked Her Majesty's Government whether any restrictions are in force that might hamper the Council of the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority at their discretion from cooperating with those industrial undertakings who are supporting and subscribing to the Industrial Scientific Fund formed to forward the Government's plans for technical education (Cmd. 9703); and whether, in view of the special importance of this matter in the development of nuclear energy in this country, the Lord President of the Council, as a matter of policy, will ensure the equal freedom to render financial assistance is granted to the Council of the Atomic Energy Authority.

THE MARQUESS OF SALISBURY

The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority is financed from public funds, and its powers are defined by the Atomic Energy Authority Act, 1954. A grant of financial assistance to the Industrial Scientific Fund referred to in the Question would not be within the statutory powers of the Authority.

House adjourned at three minutes past ten o'clock.
