HC Deb 08 March 1956 vol 549 c225W
74. Mr. Slater

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many boys the approved school at Aycliffe provides for; what are the ages of such groups; and how many are resident there at the moment.

Major Lloyd-George

The classifying department of Aycliffe Approved School has accommodation for seventy-two boys aged eight and under seventeen on admission, and the training department has accommodation for 120 boys aged thirteen and fourteen on admission. There are at present thirty-four boys in the classifying department and ninety in the training department.

75. Mr. Slater

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what improvements have been carried out at the approved school at Aycliffe; and how much such improvements have cost.

Major Lloyd-George

The temporary huts taken over for the accommodation of Aycliffe School on its establishment in 1942 have been replaced, between 1949 and 1955, by permanent premises for the staff and boys at a cost of about £296,000.
