§ Mr. Hector Hughesasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will set up a commission to examine the effect of the 30W present system of freight charges on industry in the North of Scotland and to make recommendations as to how the pattern of industry can best be developed so as to offset the present burden borne by the North of Scotland, as contrasted with the regions further south.
§ Mr. J. StuartAn entirely new freight charges scheme drafted by the British Transport Commission is now under consideration by the Transport Tribunal; and the constant efforts made in consultation with the bodies already interested in Highland development to attract suitable new industries are meeting with some success. I do not therefore think that the appointment of a new commission is necessary.
