asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies in how many, and in what Colonies and Dependencies, there is not now a Department of Co-operatives.

Mr. Hare

There are nine territories where there are official registrars of cooperative societies but no separate Departments of Co-operatives; and eleven others in which there are as yet neither registrars nor Departments.

The lists of the territories are as follows:

  1. (a) Territories in which there is a registrar of co-operative societies but no Department of Co-operatives
    • Barbados.
    • British Solomon Islands Protectorate.
    • Dominica.
    • Gambia.
    • Malta.
    • St. Helena.
    • St. Lucia.
    • St. Vincent.
    • Zanzibar.
  2. (b) Territories in which there is no registrar or Department of Co-operatives
    • Bahamas.
    • Bermuda.
    • Brunei
    • Falkland Islands.
    • Gibraltar.
    • Grenada (1).
    • Leeward Islands.
    • North Borneo (2).
    • Seychelles.
    • Somaliland Protectorate
    • Tristan da Cunha.
  1. (1) A registrar is about to be appointed.
  2. (2) It is proposed to set up a Department of Co-operatives shortly. An officer has just completed a course of training.
