Johnsonasked the Minister of Education if he is aware that a four-day week for schoolchildren because of shortage of teachers is imminent in the schools of Hull; how many other local education authorities have informed him of a similar predicament; and what action he is proposing in the matter.

EcclesI have heard that the position in Hull is likely to be particularly difficult in September, and I have also met representatives of eight other local education authorities who have indicated that their staffing position is deteriorating. But none of them has told me that part-time education will be necessary. As to the action I am taking, I would refer the hon. Member to what I said in the debate yesterday.
