HC Deb 21 February 1956 vol 549 c23W
90. Mr. C. Howell

asked the Secretary of State for War why it is necessary for National Service men to buy their own cleaning materials; and if he will consider reviewing this, with a view to Service men being provided with such articles as standard issues.

Mr. F. Maclean

A National Service man on joining the Army receives two shoe brushes, a clothes brush, a button brush and button-stick. He also receives a clothing allowance which contains an element for web equipment cleaner and metal polish. Dubbin is supplied free. Soldiers serving in operational areas receive free issues of any necessary cleaning materials instead of a clothing allowance.
