HC Deb 21 February 1956 vol 549 c25W
98. Mr. Albu

asked the President of the Board of Trade what discussions he has had with representatives of the motor industry, with a view to a reduction of its investment programmes in face of the industry's apparent inability to expand its exports proportionately to its home sales.

Mr. Low

There is close consultation between the Board of Trade and the motor industry, both in day-to-day talks and in the National Advisory Council for the Motor Manufacturing Industry. Individual manufacturing firms, which are, of course, subject to current credit policy, make their own decisions on investment. It would be wrong to underestimate the great efforts made by the motor-car manufacturers further to increase their exports of motor cars, in 1955 the largest in the world.
