HC Deb 21 February 1956 vol 549 cc17-8W
75. Mr. Willis

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland to make arrangements for the costs incurred by local authorities in providing hospital treatment in homes provided under Part III of the National Assistance Act, 1948, for patients for whom the regional hospital board cannot provide accommodation, to be borne by the regional hospital board.

Mr. J. Stuart

Local authorities are not empowered to provide hospital treatment as such in accommodation administered under Part III of the National Assistance Act. They are expected to afford such medical and nursing care as is necessary for residents for whom admission to hospital is not appropriate or immediately practicable. Regional hospital boards have no powers to meet the cost of care thus afforded.
