HC Deb 21 February 1956 vol 549 cc11-2W
37. Mr. Spearman

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what further sales he is proposing to make of the dollar securities owned by the Treasury.

Mr. H. Macmillan

There has been no change in the general policy which was announced by my predecessor on 3rd February, 1955, of retaining the bulk of these securities in Treasury ownership, while arranging for sales to be made from time to time on the London market. I do not consider it necessary or desirable that market operations of this kind should be accompanied each time by a public announcement, but I shall be ready to inform Parliament at appropriate intervals of any sales which have actually taken place. The sales so far made in this way amount to about $30 million.
