asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty what action he is taking to remedy the shortage of steel supplies for the shipbuilding industry, following his recent discussions with the industry and with the Board of Trade.

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty whether he will make a statement on the supply of steel to the shipbuilding industry.

Yes. As I informed my hon. Friend the Member for Sunderland, South (Mr. P. Williams) on 1st February, my noble Friend is in touch with my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade. Steps have been taken to curtail the export of steel plate in the interests of the shipbuilding and ship-repairing and other industries.
