HC Deb 15 February 1956 vol 548 c275W
111. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Minister of Supply if he will make a statement on the forthcoming nuclear test explosions indicating the nature of the precautions which it is now planned shall be taken to prevent radio-active fall-out from being carried from the place of test to inhabited areas.

Mr. Erroll

From meteorological information provided by the Australian Meteorological Service the scientific director of the trials will make an assessment of the fall-out patterns. An independent assessment will also be made by a safety committee of Australian scientists nominated by the Australian Government. The decision to fire will be made only when both the scientific director and this committee agree that conditions are safe.
