§ 81. Mr. Burdenasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is aware that when traffic is dense in London omnibuses are frequently brought to a halt by their drivers in the middle of road intersections, thus making it impossible for vehicles to cross the road when the traffic lights change in their favour; and if he will instruct the Commissioner of Police to consult with the London Transport Executive in order to find a way of ending this practice.
§ Major Lloyd-GeorgeI am informed by the Commissioner of Police that obstruction arises at busy traffic-signalled junctions when vehicles admitted to an intersection have been unable to turn right before the lights change, or because the amber light has been ignored or traffic ahead is held up. This does not necessarily imply any fault on the part of the driver, and bus drivers are no more to 135W blame than others. When possible, more police assistance is being given at the busiest junctions to ease the difficulties, and the Commissioner will consider whether he can usefully approach the London Transport Executive in the matter.
