HC Deb 21 December 1956 vol 562 c235W
Mr. de Freitas

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is aware that our defences and the Atlantic Alliance itself have been weakened not only by lack of consultation between governments but also by the lack of discussion of the full implications of our present defence strategy by Members of Parliament from the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation countries; and whether, in these circumstances, he will propose the setting up of a consultative assembly of Members of Parliament of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation countries.

Mr. Dodds-Parker

At the recent North Atlantic Council meeting my right hon. and learned Friend suggested working towards a single Assembly which might concern itself with all forms of European and Atlantic co-operation.
