§ Major Lloyd-GeorgeThe grant of £10,000 to the British Council for Aid to Refugees is a contribution towards the additional administrative expenses incurred by the Council in co-ordinating the work of voluntary societies concerned with the care and welfare of Hungarian refugees in this country. The voluntary societies are aware of the need for an adequate information service in the hostels where the refugees are accommodated and are doing what they can to meet it.
§ Mr. F. Noel-Bakerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what reports he has received of Communist activity among Hungarian refugees at Chiseldon Camp, near Swindon; and what action he proposes to take.
§ Major Lloyd-GeorgeThe answer to the first part of the Question is none, and the second part therefore does not arise. I would, however, add that Her Majesty's Government will not tolerate any attempts at intimidation of, or interference with, refugees who enjoy the protection of this country, and would have no hesitation in taking appropriate action against anyone concerned in such attempts.
