HC Deb 18 December 1956 vol 562 cc143-4W
107. Sir A. Spearman

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that the cuts in fuel oil for heating purposes to hotels are far greater than those for other industries; and, as this will cause great difficulties for hoteliers, if he will reconsider this matter.

Mr. Erroll

The cuts of 25 per cent. in supplies of fuel oil and of 33⅓ per cent. in gas/diesel oil for heating purposes which have been applied to hotels apply to commercial users generally. I realise that these cuts cause difficulty for many hoteliers but I regret that, owing to the stringency in supplies, the use of oil in hotels cannot be treated in the same way as the use of oil for industrial production.
