§ 76. Mrs. L. Jegerasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many children in Cyprus have been sentenced to whipping since the emergency; what were the ages of the children concerned; by whom the sentence is carried out; and whether medical officers have to be present.
§ Mr. Lennox-Boyd166 persons under 18 years of age have been caned. Of these 18 were under 14 years of age and the remainder between the ages of 14 and 18.
The sentences are carried out by noncommissioned police officers. The presence of medical officers is not required by law but they always attend.
