HC Deb 12 December 1956 vol 562 c57W
96. Mr. Dye

asked the Secretary of State for Air what further extensions to St. Faith's Airfield, Norfolk, are at present under consideration; and what effect they will have on highways in the locality.

99. Sir F. Medlicott

asked the Secretary of State for Air if he is aware of the inconvenience caused to residents and workers in the central part of Norfolk and the City of Norwich by the partial or complete closing of many roads resulting from the extension of the Royal Air Force station at Horsham St. Faith; and if he will give an assurance that the further extensions now contemplated will cause as little interference as possible with the roads in that area.

Mr. Birch

A scheme for improving highways near this airfield was published in July, 1955. Since then we have had to consider the possibility that the main east-to-west runway may need to be lengthened. The effect would be to sever the Norwich-Holt Road (B.1149) and thus prejudice the earlier plan. The Norfolk County Council has within the last ten days forwarded a revised scheme which my right hon. Friend the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation and I are now considering.
