31. Mr. F. M. Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what treaty or other obligations are in force requiring the United Kingdom to support the United States of America, militarily or diplomatically, in the event of hostilities breaking out between Formosa and the Chinese mainland.

As my right hon. Friend the present Chancellor of the Exchequer told the House on 27th April, 1955, Her Majesty's Government have no commitment, other than such general obligation as might arise from their membership of the United Nations.
