HC Deb 12 December 1956 vol 562 c56W
90. Mr. Crouch

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that the withdrawal of telegraph facilities from Winterbourne Kingston, Dorset, and other village sub-post offices is causing considerable inconvenience; and whether he will restore these facilities to all such sub-post offices.

Dr. Hill

Telegraph facilities have been withdrawn from these sub-offices because of the diminishing use made of them by the public. At Winterbourne Kingston only 4 telegrams were handed in during the quarter ended June, 1956. In these circumstances, and as telegrams can be dictated without additional charge from nearby kiosks, I do not think I would be justified in restoring the facilities.
