HC Deb 11 December 1956 vol 562 c38W
Commander Maitland

asked the Minister of Health whether he is now able to announce the changes arising out of the increase in the petrol duty in the allowances towards the running costs of motor cars and tricycles used by the disabled.

Mr. Turton

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland and I have decided that, while the present increase in petrol duty remains in force, the allowances now made shall be increased as from 4th December as follows:—the allowance towards maintenance of war pensioners' cars by 36s. a quarter; the petrol duty allowance for war pensioners' motor tricycles by 20s. a quarter; and the allowance of free petrol for civilian patients' motor tricycles by 2½ gallons a quarter. There will be no change in the conditions for granting these additional allowances. It will take a little time to make the necessary arrangements for paying the allowances, but there is no need for the individuals concerned to apply for them.
