§ Mr. Pageasked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether he will initiate regulations, to be effective during the suspension of driving tests, permitting a driver who holds a licence to drive one class of vehicle to be granted a licence to drive another class of vehicle upon production of a certificate, issued by certain qualified instructors, of efficiency in driving vehicles of the latter class.

Friend's suggestion is practicable, I believe that the difficulties he has in mind will be largely met by the suspension of the requirement that the holder of a provisional licence must be accompanied when driving by a holder of a substantive licence. I announced 173W my intention to relax this requirement on Wednesday in answer to Questions by my hon. Friend the Member for Walthamstow, East (Mr. J. Harvey) and the hon. Member for Sheffield, Park (Mr. Mulley).
