HC Deb 06 December 1956 vol 561 cc162-3W
69. Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations how many British subjects during each of the past three years left this country for Australia under the assisted passages scheme; and how many have returned.

Lord John Hope

The numbers are:

1953 12,439
1954 18,460
1955 26,030
1956 (first nine months) 16,394

Statistics do not show how many of the persons arriving in this country from Australia are returning emigrants.
