HC Deb 05 December 1956 vol 561 c119W
33. Mr. B. Harrison

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation what steps he is taking in the present emergency, by financial assistance or otherwise, to enable British Railways to offer competitive terms to attract loads which need not be carried by petrol- and oil-consuming vehicles.

Mr. Watkinson

None, but I am informed by the British Transport Commission that it is their policy to quote commercial rates which will encourage the movement of suitable traffic by rail.
