HC Deb 05 December 1956 vol 561 c133W
109. Mr. G. Darling

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies which Colonial Territories are being explored for oil reserves; and with what results.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

Exploration for oil is at present being carried out in 19 different territories in East and West Africa, the Mediterranean, South East Asia, and the West Indies. Oil has so far been found, though not as yet in proved commercial quantities, in Nigeria. There are, as the hon. Member is no doubt aware, established oilfields in Trinidad, Brunei and Sarawak.
