HC Deb 04 December 1956 vol 561 cc105-6W
70. Mrs. Mann

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many houses are in the category of unfit, and cannot be made fit, in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Dundee and Aberdeen.

Mr. J. Stuart

I would refer the hon. Lady to the Command Paper No. 9685 entitled "Slum Clearance," published in February, 1956, which gives the information available.

Mrs. Mann

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what steps he is taking in regard to guidance or information to intending purchasers regarding houses which in the opinion of the local authority are unfit, and cannot be made fit.

Mr. J. Stuart

My Department asks local authorities to publicise slum clearance proposals approved under the Housing (Repairs and Rents) (Scotland) Act, 1954. From inquiries made, I am satisfied that local authorities readily give advice to intending purchasers who are in doubt as to whether a particular house will be affected.
