§ 64. Mr. Hector Hughesasked the Secretary of State for Scotland to state the principle he applies to cases of men killed when lawfully carrying out orders in Government Fisheries Research ships in order to ensure that their dependants are adequately compensated for the loss of their breadwinners.
§ Mr. J. StuartThe Superannuation Acts provide for the payment of a gratuity to the legal personal representatives of a deceased civil servant and for widows', children's and dependants' pensions if he had been a contributor under the Widows, etc., Pension Schemes. In appropriate cases an award may be made in accordance with the Injury Warrant. 1952. There is also provision for benefit under the National Insurance (Industrial Injuries) Act, 1946.

§ 65. Mr. Hector Hughesasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware that Mr. Frost, of 30, Roslin Street, Aberdeen, who was, on 5th October, 1955, killed in the Government Fisheries Research Ship "Kathleen," of which details have been sent to him, was carrying out orders in dangerous conditions and in a ship unsuitable in design for the carrying out of those orders; if he will make available a transcript of the evidence and findings of the inquiry which was held; if he is aware that the compensation awarded to the widow is inadequate; and if he will take steps to have it increased.
§ Mr. J. StuartI cannot accept the hon. and learned Member's suggestions that the conditions were dangerous or the ship unsuitable; nor are they borne out by the evidence and finding at the Fatal Accident Inquiry, of which a transcript can be obtained on application to the Sheriff Clerk at Elgin.
The widow has received the full financial provision that can be made for her under the Superannuation Acts and the Injury Warrant framed thereunder and she is also receiving the appropriate industrial death benefit under the National Insurance (Industrial Injuries) Act, 1946.
