HC Deb 04 December 1956 vol 561 cc101-2W
53. Mr. A. Henderson

asked the Prime Minister whether he will make a statement on the policy of Her Majesty's Government in view of the recent official statement by the United States Government that they would view with the utmost gravity any threat to the territorial independence of members of the Bagdad Pact.

Mr. R. A. Butler

I have been asked to reply. Her Majesty's Government warmly welcome the statement by the United States Government about the Bagdad Pact. They have always regarded the partnership between the Bagdad Pact Powers as the only promising basis for the future security and prosperity of the area. They will continue to give the Pact their full support. It clearly follows that Her Majesty's Government would view with the utmost gravity any threat to the territorial integrity or political independence of their fellow members in the Pact.
