HC Deb 02 August 1956 vol 557 cc194-5W
56. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies why Tan Yeow Meng was kept in prison for six months in Singapore before being brought to trial, when he was acquitted; and, in view of the criticisms of the committing magistrate and the Attorney-General by the judge, what action has been taken to avoid a repetition of this prolonged detention by prisoners awaiting trial.

Mr. Hare

My right hon. Friend is asking the Governor for a report on this case and will write to the hon. Member as soon as it is received.
