asked the Minister of Health how many beds are available in mental deficiency hospitals and homes for which he is responsible; and how many of these beds are occupied.

Mr. Turton

On 31st December, 1955, the number of patients resident was 52,871. In addition, 1,273 beds were not in use owing to shortage of staff and 424 for other reasons.
