HC Deb 02 August 1956 vol 557 cc173-4W
Mr. Woollam

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department to give an assurance that he will receive and consider the opinions of interested staff associations and trade unions before introducing a Bill to implement the recommendations of the Gowers' Committee on conditions of employment in shops and offices.

Major Lloyd-George

I am always ready to consider the views of staff associations and trade unions on such matters. My right hon. Friend the Prime Minister, my predecessor and I have already discussed the proposed legislation with representatives of the Trades Union Congress and the unions concerned on a number of occasions.
