asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many of the persons under 21 years of age convicted for drunkenness in 1954 and 1955 were females; and how many males and how many of the females were placed on probation in either year.

In 1954, 210 females under 21 were found guilty of drunkenness as the principal offence: of these 23 were placed on probation. The corresponding figures for 1955 were 226 and 24 respectively.

Of the 3,024 males under 21 found guilty of drunkenness as the principal offence in 1954, 41 were placed on probation: the corresponding figures for 1955 were 3,872 and 31 respectively.

In addition, 257 males and 11 females in 1954, and 311 males and 8 females in 1955, of these ages, were found guilty of drunkenness at the same time as a more serious offence, but information about the sentences imposed for these offences of drunkenness is not available.
