HC Deb 26 April 1956 vol 551 c170W
Mr. Benn

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many African members there are on the Maize Control Board, the Cotton Marketing Board and the Tobacco Board, respectively, in Northern Rhodesia.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

, pursuant to his reply [OFFICIAL REPORT, 8th March, 1956; Vol. 549, c. 227] supplied the following information: There is no Cotton Board in Northern Rhodesia, and the Tobacco Board is now the responsibility of the Federal Government. The Maize Control Board consists, as prescribed by law, of a chairman and up to five other persons appointed by the Governor; no African has been appointed but the interests of the African producers are looked after by the Director of Agriculture who is chairman.
