asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what are the penalties prescribed in Sierra Leone for illicit diamond buying.

Under the Alluvial Diamond Mining Ordinance, 1956, any person found guilty of illicit diamond buying in Sierra Leone is liable to imprisonment up to five years, with or without hard labour, or to a fine not exceeding £5,000, or to both such imprisonment and fine.
