HC Deb 23 April 1956 vol 551 cc114-5W
56. Mr. Lewis

asked the Attorney-General why proceedings are not being instituted by himself or the Director of Public Prosecutions against bookmakers for the offences, details of which are in his possession.

The Solicitor-General

There is no restriction on the right to prosecute for offences against the Betting Acts. My right hon. and learned Friend does not consider that the public interest requires that either he or the Director of Public Prosecutions should initiate proceedings.
