§ Major Lloyd-GeorgeOn 30th September, 1955, the authorised establishment of the Metropolitan Police Force was 19,475 male officers and 523 women officers; the deficiency was 4,034 men and 27 women. On the same date the total authorised establishment of police forces in England and Wales was 73,122 male officers and 2,311 women officers; the deficiency was 9,689 men and 290 women.
