Mr. John MacLeodasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what action he proposes to take to speed up the regional water scheme for Easter Ross and the Black Isle owing to the serious effects which the drought is having, endangering both health and agricultural production; and what investigation his Department has made.

Friend the Minister of State has agreed to meet representatives of the county council and 3W the local branch of the National Farmers' Union of Scotland at an early date to discuss this matter. I shall carefully consider any representations made at the meeting and inform the hon. Member of the result.
