HC Deb 24 November 1955 vol 546 c148W
105. Mr. Chapman

asked the Minister of Works what estimates he has made of the recent increase in the amount of building resources devoted to repair, renovation, extension, rebuilding and new building, of offices, cinemas, public houses, and similar construction; and how estimates of the extent of this work are now made.

Mr. Birch

The increase in miscellaneous building, including offices, cinemas, public houses, etc., between 1954 and 1955 is estimated at about £20 millions. This does not include repairs and maintenance of these buildings for which separate figures are not available. The estimate is based on returns made by building and civil engineering contractors.
