HC Deb 24 November 1955 vol 546 cc134-5W
35. Mr. C. Hughes

asked the Minister of Labour if he will arrange for men attending for a medical examination prior to call-up for National Service to be given a chest X-ray as part of that examination.

Sir W. Monckton

Over 80 per cent. of National Service men attending for medical examination are given a chest X-ray as part of their examination. In a few areas, including Anglesey, the percentage has been much lower, because of difficulty in providing the necessary facilities. The Welsh Board of Health is now able to arrange for a mobile X-ray unit to visit Bangor at quarterly intervals, and the great majority of National Service men from Anglesey attending for medical examination should be assured of an X-ray examination.
