HC Deb 24 November 1955 vol 546 c147W
Mr. Doughty

asked the Minister of Health the composition of the Medical Advisory Committee which advised him concerning the ban on heroin.

Mr. Iain Macleod

The Committee, which is appointed under statute, includes the Presidents of the three Royal Colleges, the Chairman of the Council of the British Medical Association, the President of the General Medical Council and the Chairman of the Council of the Society of Medical Officers of Health. It also includes four consultant physicians, five consultant surgeons and five general medical practitioners, all of whom were appointed after consulting the appropriate medical organisations—including, of course, the British Medical Association.
