HC Deb 21 November 1955 vol 546 cc70-1W
42. Mr. Shinwell

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance what representations he has received from the Trimdon Branch of the British Legion and from other branches of this organisation in the County of Durham on the inadequacy of ex-Service pensions.

Brigadier Smyth

No trace has been found of any recent representations from the branches of the British Legion to which the right hon. Member refers but as I have said today, in reply to the hon. Member for Sedgefield (Mr. Slater), my right hon. Friend has received representations from the British Legion headquarters and is shortly receiving a deputation.

43. Mr. Willey

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance whether he will examine the possibility of an increase in war pensions.

Brigadier Smyth

This is a matter that deputations from ex-Service men's organisations will shortly be putting to my right hon. Friend, who will of course listen carefully to what they have to say. As the hon. Member is aware, however, the basic rates of war pensions were increased substantially in February last.
